Dreams..

When I was younger, every morning I would wake up and write down what happened in my dreams. The more i did this the better i got at remembering the little things that happened. Some people believe that what you dream symbolise certain things in your life, and I like to think that this is true.
Its always interesting recounting your dreams, even more interesting when you visit other peoples dreams...especially when what they have dreamt is something that you yourself have dreamt about.

A friend told me about his dream that I was a part of and I got inspired....especially since aspects of this dream have been a part of my (reoccuring) dreams for the past year.

Trip down memory lane..

These ink drawings are part of a series of 12 drawings done 2 years ago during my last year at art school. They are special to me because they were the first works of art that I exhibited in a gallery outside of tafe and the first artworks that I won an award for.

Giveaway

For my 30th blog post I thought I would do a little giveaway.

I created this blog so that I have somewhere to display my constantly developing art, to receive constructive feedback and as a way of keeping track of my art.

To go in the running to win the following framed, small-scale drawing you need to be following my blog and have given me some form of feedback.

Goodluck!! I will post the winner this Friday 27th July.

A little Peek...

"A little Peek", 2012, Pencil and Ink on Canaletto

My own teacher..

Sometimes, to push myself with my art I will take myself out of my comfort zone.Normally my art is controlled and i focus on proportion, light, shading and colour. In these latest experiements I instead let the artwork control me. To be able to develop and see things in a new light i believe its important to do this occasionally. (Although i do have Paul Higgs to thank for making me do things like this to begin with.)

I created these works using a range of different materials including pencil, watercolour, acrylic, oil and enamel paint.

Art Day

Art day today!!! Finally the sun is back out so i got a chance to soak up some vitamin D, and some inspiration, before heading back inside to my easel and drawing materials. Today i will be working on some watercolours and for a change i'm going to be playing with some clay. I haven't played around with sculpture since my first year at tafe so it should be interesting, and fun!

Gift

To say thank you to a lovely friend for allowing me to come along for a once in a lifetime opportunity I drew this:

It didnt take me very long but it did occupy a couple of my lunch breaks at my normal job, although i'm sure i looked like an idiot lugging around my large sketchbook through the shopping center. I can't help it, but i always have to have some sort of drawing material on me, "just incase!".

The only thing on my mind..

Even when I'm home sick, and what I really should be doing is resting, I can't help but do some kind of art. I feel guilty if I don't. I found a beautiful image a while ago that I have been meaning to draw, so today seemed like the perfect opportunity.
I used my favourite paper, canaletto, in a cream. Considering I haven't been feeling the best I am quite happy with the results:

True Love..

I spent this lovely morning exploring the peaceful surroundings of my new home and realized something; as long as I can see beauty, experience beauty and create beauty I am going to have a very happy and fulfilled life.

Sometime I feel as if I have wasted the last couple of years studying art, considering I have an extremely low chance (1% chance in fact) of making it as a professional artist. But it is my true love, my passion. I have to admit, some of my art is far from beautiful, dark and often confronting, but lately I have drifted towards softer themes. I have put my efforts towards creating artworks revolving around things I think are beautiful, keeping in mind, what I think is beautiful may not be what others consider beautiful. I am doing this with both my photographic work and my work on paper and canvas. So this morning, whilst I was out, I used my camera to capture things that have caught my eye during my morning walks.
