Cherry Hood Inspiration

I visited the Tweed River Art Gallery for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to discover two Cherry Hood artworks in the collection. She works predominantly with watercolour creating beautiful portraits. The portrait below(taken from http://cherryhood.co/) is one of the two exhibited in the gallery.

I spent quite a while studying the different colours she has used and layered on to the paper to create this beautiful work.

Some of you may remember this artwork “Gabriella” that was in the Moran Prize Exhibition in Sydney in 2008, which was the first time I got to see one of her artworks in the flesh.

Pretty Boy

I have a thing for pretty boys, so I thought I might do a painting of one. This was done using oils and i limited my colour palette to ultramarine blue and white. I may add some black..what do you think?

Lolita

Today in the studio i started my new "Lolita" series with two ink drawings. My "Lolita" series is something i have been thinking about since last year and is inspired by the novel "Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov. Eventually i would like to produce a series of oil paintings. Let me know what you think so far.. 

Bed Of Roses

Just for a bit of fun i though i would play around with still-life, a vase of roses. Some of the flowers had a really nice petal arrangement. As you can see i kept the drawing style basic, linear with a small amount of shading. I am even considering getting one as a tattoo, but we will see.

Romolo Milito Inspiration

Again exploring juxtapoz.com i stumbled upon yet another amazing artist. This time a photographer. This work inspires me to pull out my camera, which i havn't done in quite a while. Milito's photographs are beautiful, sexy, raunchy. I love how the artist dulls down the colours to create an almost black and white image.

Story Time

I finally have some artwork finished and ready to exhibit and sell. I decided to group my small scale charcoal, graphite and ink drawings together in sets of three. To me, these images create little stories where i invite the viewer to try and create their own meanings behind the image. The aim of my work is to invoke emotions within the viewer.
